Early Autumn update . . .

A short but productive monthly meeting in August was tinged with sadness at the news of the passing of Colin James.  Colin was a valued member of the MAGOR group and STAG (Severn Tunnel Action Group).  His knowledge of ‘matters railway’ was immense.  Despite his illness of recent years, Colin always remained cheerful and was ever willing to help and advise our group whenever he could.  Colin will be greatly missed by all of us.

  • Other matters from the meeting included;

    • a report from Councillor Plow that MAGOR’s request to Magor & Undy Community Council for an increase in the amount earmarked for the next GRIP stage had been looked on favourably.

    • Ted reported that the meeting with David Rowlands, the Assembly Member, had gone very well. Mr Rowlands had expressed great interest in the campaign and offered to help in any way he could.

    • I reported that unfortuantely due to a ‘mis-administration’ we had had not been able to attend the first Transport for Wales stakeholder conference in Shrewsbury.  However we had received the content in the form of powerpoint presentations and were registered for the next repeat of the event.

    • It was agreed that MAGOR would support the Golden Lion’s charity event in aid of St David’s Foundation.

  • And so we did . . . here is Ted explaining to a local resident the aims of MAGOR and progress to datecharity-day-gcth

  • A couple of other bits of news,

    • Jessica Morden, our MP, has asked to meet us again for a catch up.  This was very pleasing. Jessica has done much to help us progress this far.  A date is in the diary!

    • Finally, MAGOR has submitted its application to the ‘New Station Fund ‘. Now we will have to wait some months before we know if we have been successful.
