A day at the Fayre . . .

It was great to be back at the May Fayre again on Monday.  Magor Action Group on Rail (MAGOR) and Magor and Undy Community Hub (MUCH) took a stall to publicise the progress both groups have made over the last two years. The Fayre attracted the largest number of people I have ever seen at a Fayre (thanks and credit to the Magor Events Team) and our stall attracted a great deal of interest.

People were excited, impressed and grateful to the groups when they were updated with the latest news which, in a nutshell is –

  • Thanks to the People and Places Lottery, The Community Hub construction is now fully funded and at the very detailed stage of design. Building is due to start around July/August this year, with completion by spring next year.

  • The station (Magor and Undy Walkway), which will be sited very close to The Hub, is now firmly in Welsh Government plans as one of the 6 new stations identified in the ‘Burns Report’. Designs for the stations are now underway. Delivering them is under the direction of the Burns Delivery Group, chaired by Professor Simon Gibson, who has met with our group and was sympathetic to our view that ‘Magor station’ could be a ‘quick win’, as there is very little needed in terms of local rail infrastructure change (unlike the other 5 stations).

At the Fayre we collected the 250 signatures necessary for Welsh Government’s Petitions Committee to consider our claim that ‘Welsh Government should expedite the opening of ‘Magor and Undy Walkway as a quick win’

Thank you for your unfailing support over the years. The Hub and The Station will very soon be a reality.
