In December I reported that 2020 had been a ‘bitter-sweet year’, with Magor & Undy Walkway Station making considerable progress, culminating in its endorsement in the Burns Report – all set in amongst the trials and tribulations of the COVID pandemic.
This year the progress continues. In a Zoom meeting between Monmouthshire County Council (MCC), our MP (Jessica Morden), our Senedd Member (John Griffiths), the transport minister Lee Waters and ourselves, the minister confirmed the ‘Magor station’ was now in Welsh Government’s plans and that MAGOR, as stakeholders, and MCC would be included in the planning process. The Minister also suggested that MAGOR and MCC continue to consult with residents to ask what would make the ‘Walkway’ / Active Travel concepts easier and to work for them.
Since then, further meetings and discussions have taken place with Network Rail, Transport for Wales, Welsh Government and MCC. In adopting the Burns Report, Welsh Government has set up a Steering Group and a Delivery Group to deliver the various projects (including Magor & Undy Walkway). MCC have senior representation on those groups – MAGOR inputting via fortnightly meetings with MCC.
In the coming months we will need to be patient as the groups, processes and plans take shape but as progress gathers pace, we will ensure that the community is involved and that any concerns are discussed and resolved.
