October, lockdown again but still progressing . . .

While we wait to hear (anytime now) if we have been successful with the ‘Restoring Your Railways – Good Ideas Fund’, there have been a few more good bits of news this month –

  • Transport for Wales have produced a document called ‘Mainline Railway Enhancement Requirements – Strategic Cases for North Wales and South Wales Mainline Corridors‘. It documents ‘Priority Schemes’ into the 2020’s; including, “Bringing the South Wales Main Line up to the same standard as the other ‘main lines’ across the UK, (which) requires a major upgrade in terms of line speed, capacity and electrification”.  It goes on to talk specifically about the South Wales Mainline Corridor and refers to “New SWML/Relief Line local services and stations / interchanges including: Magor, Llanwern, Cardiff Parkway, Rover Way / Newport Rd, M4 Junction 34, Cockett and St Clears”.  This is, of course, extremely exciting news and perhaps the first real indication that Magor & Undy Walkway Station is now on the ‘To Do’ list.  MAGOR will be participating in another TfW stakeholders workshop (virtual) on the 18th November and may find out more then.

  • Another great ZOOM catch-up meeting with John Griffiths SM and Jessica Morden MP yesterday.  We identified a few more follow-up actions to do, to keep the ball moving.  If you follow John or Jessica on Twitter, you will see a reference to the meeting. We are hugely grateful to them and their team for their ongoing help and support.

  • And finally, we were pleased to gain new support for the campaign from housing developers Linden Homes and Bovis Homes and so they join our group of supporting organisations at the foot of the page. Thank you all.
