Belated July update . . .

At this time of the year the holiday season is in full swing and many of you will be away enjoying your hard-earned break. However, MAGOR has still been very active and have a couple of important items to highlight –

  • The creative writing stories and drawing competition, that I mentioned last month, has been judged and a winner found. Children from both of Magor Church in Wales and Undy Primary schools took part with many excellent entries made, based around the ‘Famous Five’ theme. Three children from each school won Amazon vouchers but the overall winner was Evelyn Rose Matthewson for her story. The competition was sponsored and judged by GWR. The prize awarded for Evelyn and her parents, was three First Class rail tickets to anywhere on the GWR route, courtesy of GWR and Jessica Morden MP. Additionally, GWR arranged for Evelyn and her parents to attend the BBC’s Country File live event at Blenheim Palace, where Evelyn’s winning entry was read by the actress Jan Francis. It is intended that a book of the best entries will be prepared and be available later in the year.
  • July saw the MAGOR group’s Annual General Meeting (followed by the usual monthly meeting). The meeting was only attended by the usual committee members (who were re-elected) but local resident and Estate Agent, John Crook was also elected to the committee. The full list of committee members can be viewed here. The usual monthly meeting focused on planning the ‘September Publicity Event’ and a report received from Ted Hand on his attendance at the Department for Transport, Cross Country Stakeholders seminar in Cardiff. Minutes of both meetings can be viewed here.

As we have all been enjoying the excellent summer, the MUCH Group have achieved a major milestone. You can read about it here.
