Summary of 14th August Meeting

With the holiday season in full swing and a few members away it was a shorter meeting than usual.

The main items were –

  • Peter Wilson was welcomed on to the committee
  • Ted Hand reported on the recent meeting with Network Rail, facilitated and attended by John Griffiths (Assembly Member).  It would be fair to say that the meeting resulted in more questions than answers. Consequently it is hoped that Jessica Morden (MP) will be able to  gain an answer from the Secretary of State for Transport (as soon as parliament is back from ‘recess’) that confirms that Network Rail (still) intends to electrify the relief lines between Newport and Severn Tunnel Junction.  Electrification of those lines is critical to the possibility of a building a station to serve Magor and Undy.
  • Funding the ‘GRIP’ feasibility process was further discussed, e.g. using the ‘Crowd Funding’ method but we agreed to hold off progressing that until we have an answer to the above question
  • Our new banner, currently situated on the fence at the junction with Dancing Hill and Main Road (B4245), is surviving well. We agreed to move it to a new location soon.
  • The milestone plan (Planning250214v5pdf) was reviewed. In overall terms we agreed that there was some ‘slippage’ but not to any major detriment at this point.
  • Dates for the next three meetings were agreed – http://magorstation.co.uk/?page_id=36
