It’s nearly ‘Walk to School Day’ . . .

As I reported previously MAGOR would again be sponsoring the local ‘Walk to School Day’.

Local Councillor and School Governor, Victoria Hammett-Johnson, who is taking a lead role in this year’s event, has provided the following update for us .

“On 3 July 2026, MAGOR (Magor Action Group on Rail) will be sponsoring a Walk to School Day for pupils at Undy and Magor Church in Wales Primary Schools.

The event aims to highlight the benefits of walking and demonstrate the need for a Walkway Station for Magor and Undy. Walk to School Day provides a visible reminder of how our town can be transformed when more families choose to walk rather than drive. While we recognise that walking to school is not always possible, we hope the day will encourage people to consider how they might incorporate more active travel into their daily routines.

Children who normally travel to school by bus will also have the opportunity to take part. They will be invited to complete a walk around the school yard or Sycamore Field, ensuring that no pupil misses out on the event.

A number of guests will be attending, including public representatives, Active Travel officers, community support officers, County Councillors and Town Councillors. We hope they will see first-hand the positive impact that active travel can have—not only on our town, but also on the health and wellbeing of pupils and their families.

Every pupil at both schools will receive a ticket to hand in if they walk to school on 3 July. For each ticket collected, MAGOR will donate 50p to the respective school to support their PTFA and FOUPS fundraising efforts. MAGOR is also inviting local businesses, organisations and community members to contribute to the initiative, with all donations going directly to support our fantastic schools.

We hope this event will inspire families to think about how they can walk more often, reduce car journeys where possible, and enjoy the many benefits of active travel. We look forward to seeing as many pupils and parents as possible taking part on the day.”

Many thanks Victoria.
